about

This song is about January 2nd, 2013. The Idle No More movement slowed traffic on Highway two entering Edmonton, Alberta. I was working a dead-end job delivering water bottles at the time and I remember the hatred being spewed out from radio stations in town. This song is about those who refused to even look into what the protesting could have been about and instead, used it as an excuse for racist hate. The line "raise up the dust, but keep the sand in tact" refers to people that said things like, "I am all for them protesting, but they should have done it in a way that didn't impact anyone else." What the fuck kind of protest would that be? The lines, "We'll keep it as us vs. them, but we'll bury the stories that don't have any sides" refers to the media that never covered it like Bill C-45 could possibly have anything bad for Canadian-settlers — only for native people. And basically a Canadian culture that perpetuates hate towards aboiringal people. "We're living the future of a people who deny the past" — this is the first generation that is starting to admit that a genocide took place on this continent.

The reason we yell Manborg at the end of the song doesn't make any sense: We recorded in a studio inside The Lobby, a horror-film rental shop on Whyte Ave. There was a poster for Manborg. The name is hilarious and after three days straight in the studio it seemed like a good idea at the time.

lyrics

An inconvenience fueling a blind rage. Are you mad at the protest or ashamed that you don't care? Resentlful of those with hope, you're stuck in traffic staring at your nose. We'll raise up dust, but we'll keep the sand in tact. We'll keep it as us vs. them, but we'll bury the stories that don't have any sides. Deny. We're still lining up like junkies. "It's good to the last drop." Searching for a new vein. I'm sure I've got another one tucked away. An inconvenience fueling a blind rage. Are you mad at the protest or ashamed that you don't care? Unrecognized privelage keeps us locked in a cage. So proud of ignorance, we've swallowed the fucking keys. We're living the future of a people that deny the past. Deny.
